Welcome to Townsend, Tennessee

Townsend is the most beautiful place on earth. Even in the early Spring before the mountains turn green as in the photo above, this is a wonderful place. This small town is nestled next to Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The Smokies are particularly loved by fly fishermen. There are over 800 miles of fishable trout streams within this 500,000 acre wilderness. The trout are wild. Stocking ceased here in the early 1970's. And you will find rainbow, brown or brook trout in these beautiful mountain streams willing to take your fly.

If you don't fish there are several outdoor activities such as horseback riding, biking, hiking or wildlife watching and photography. You can visit our two museums, The Smoky Mountains Heritage Center or the Little River Railroad Museum. If you are looking for a place where you can enjoy large tourist attractions, Townsend is not for you.

You have several options available to you to stay in Townsend. You can rent a cabin. There are several hundred of them ranging from a one bedroom tucked away in a hollow to some larger homes with up to 6 bedrooms and 6,000 square feet. We have several family owned motels. Most have been in business for decades under the same family management. You can stay in a lodge or bed & breakfast. You can camp in one of our many developed campgrounds located right on the Little River. Or you may camp in the National Park at Cades Cove or Elkmont. Dine in one of our many restaurants or prepare your own meals in your cabin. Whatever you decide to do, you can be close to Troutfest and some fine Smokies trout fishing.
